Actor Rajpal Yadav has finally explained why he did not appear in the blockbuster Om Shanti Om alongside Shah Rukh Khan, revealing that his absence was the result of a misunderstanding rather than a deliberate rejection of the role.
Speaking in a recent interview, Yadav said he was completely unaware that he had allegedly declined the part. He described the situation as a case of Bollywood casting miscommunication, which ultimately led to him being portrayed negatively in front of the film’s lead star.
‘I was presented negatively’
Yadav recalled that he was informed by Bobby Chawla that Shah Rukh Khan wanted to meet him regarding an issue, even though the two had already interacted earlier the same day.
He later discovered that he had been told he declined Om Shanti Om due to scheduling conflicts — a claim he firmly denies.
“I didn’t have any idea about it. I was presented negatively in front of Shah Rukh bhai,” Yadav said, adding that the misunderstanding stemmed purely from miscommunication and not from any professional disagreement.

Addressing speculation about strained relations, Yadav clarified that there was never any lasting tension between him and Shah Rukh Khan.
He recalled meeting the superstar on the sets of Billu, where Khan warmly hugged him, signaling that there were no hard feelings.
Yadav also praised Shah Rukh Khan as a “fantastic” and “complete actor,” highlighting his experience across theatre, television, and cinema — a compliment that reinforces the positive Rajpal Yadav Shah Rukh Khan equation.
Role change in Billu
The actor further revealed that he was originally considered for a role in Billu but was later replaced by Irrfan Khan. Despite the change, Yadav still appeared in the film, portraying the character Budbudiya.
Reflecting on the episode, Yadav suggested that such Om Shanti Om behind-the-scenes misunderstandings are not uncommon in the film industry, where communication gaps can sometimes cost actors significant opportunities.
However, he emphasized that mutual respect and professional relationships matter more than missed roles, adding that he continues to hold Shah Rukh Khan in high regard.
