Pakistan’s Freelancers Earn $175 Million in July as Exports Jump 45.5%

Pakistani freelancers started the new financial year on a strong note.

Freelance services brought in $175.44 million in foreign exchange in July 2026, up 45.5% from $120.56 million during the same month last year, according to State Bank of Pakistan data.

That means freelance earnings increased by $54.88 million in just one year.

The jump highlights how quickly online workers are becoming an important source of foreign exchange for Pakistan.

IT freelancing remains a major contributor

IT-related freelance services generated $106.78 million in July, compared with $89.87 million a year earlier.

But the biggest percentage jump came from non-IT freelancing.

Non-IT freelance services earned $68.66 million, more than double the $30.68 million recorded in July 2025.

The numbers show that Pakistan’s online workforce is expanding beyond traditional technology services.

Freelancers face a big challenge

Ibrahim Amin, chairman of the Pakistan Freelancers Association, said freelance export receipts have continued to grow steadily.

But he warned that the sector would need to maintain growth of more than 50% in the coming months if it wants to achieve a much larger increase by the end of fiscal year 2026-27.

For young people and students, freelancing can offer a way to earn from international clients without leaving Pakistan.

Amin said workers need both technical and soft skills to compete globally. Business development, communication and client management are becoming just as important as technical expertise.

More support for Pakistan’s digital workforce

The government and private sector are also working to expand skills development opportunities for young people entering the digital economy.

Amin said new freelancer awards introduced separately by the Pakistan Freelancers Association and the Pakistan Software Export Board could also help shine a light on the industry.

For Pakistan’s growing freelance community, July’s numbers offer an encouraging start to the new financial year.

The bigger question now is whether this momentum can continue in the months ahead.
