Pakistan’s federal government debt increased by 7.4 percent on a year-on-year basis in June 2026, climbing to Rs. 83.642 trillion, according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan.
On a month-on-month basis, the central government’s debt rose 2.1 percent, up from Rs. 81.955 trillion in May 2026.
National Debt Climbing by Rs. 15.8 Billion a Day
Compared to June 2025 figures, Pakistan’s national debt has been increasing at a pace of roughly Rs. 183,000 per second, or about Rs. 15.8 billion per day, underscoring the sustained rate at which federal liabilities have grown over the past year.
Domestic Debt Leads the Increase
Central Government Domestic Debt rose 9.1 percent year-on-year to reach Rs. 59.441 trillion in June 2026. Within that total, long-term public debt increased from Rs. 45.653 trillion to Rs. 48.446 trillion over the year, while short-term debt grew more sharply, rising from Rs. 8.756 trillion to Rs. 10.928 trillion during the same period.
