The Punjab government is considering holding a three-day Basant festival in March 2027, replacing an earlier plan for a 10-day celebration in Lahore.
According to government sources, consultations over revised dates have been completed, and an official announcement could be made soon. However, the Punjab government has not yet formally confirmed the new schedule.
Basant May Return to March
Under the latest proposal, Basant would be held shortly after Ramadan, rather than during the previously announced January 29 to February 7 period.
The festival schedule has already been revised several times. Authorities initially proposed holding Basant in March before shifting the celebrations to late January and early February.
The latest plan would return the festival to March while reducing its duration from 10 days to just three days.
Dates Still Await Official Confirmation
The repeated changes have created uncertainty for residents, kite makers and others preparing for the traditional festival.
While government sources suggest that an announcement could be made shortly, the exact dates have not yet been disclosed.
The proposed March schedule should therefore be considered tentative until the Punjab government formally announces the final dates and duration of the Basant celebrations.
Government Yet to Issue Final Schedule
The earlier proposal had envisaged a 10-day Basant celebration in Lahore, but the latest discussions indicate a shorter festival may now be preferred.
A final decision will determine when kite-flying activities and related celebrations can take place and how long the event will continue.
Until an official notification is issued, residents and kite makers will have to wait for confirmation of the final Basant 2027 schedule.
