The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) assistant director over allegations that he received Rs. 120 million to restore canceled identity cards belonging to Afghan nationals.
According to the FIA, its Counter Terrorism Wing (CTW) arrested the official, identified as Aftab, for allegedly accepting money to facilitate the restoration of canceled Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs).
Rs. 1.9 Million Cash Recovered
Following the arrest, FIA investigators reportedly conducted a raid at Aftab’s residence and recovered Rs. 1.9 million in cash, according to the agency.
The FIA said the suspect allegedly used part of the money he received to purchase properties in Havelian and Islamabad’s G-15 sector.
Investigators have reportedly obtained documents relating to the properties as part of the ongoing probe.
51 Afghan Nationals Allegedly Benefited

According to investigators, Aftab allegedly received the money in connection with the restoration of CNICs belonging to 51 Afghan nationals.
The allegations are now being investigated by the FIA’s Counter Terrorism Wing, which is examining how the canceled identity cards were restored and whether other officials or individuals were involved.
The agency is also expected to investigate the financial transactions and property purchases allegedly linked to the money received by the suspect.
FIA Continues Investigation
The FIA said its investigation is continuing to determine the full scope of the alleged corruption and identify any other people who may have assisted in the process.
The arrest comes as Pakistani authorities continue to scrutinize identity documentation and investigate alleged irregularities involving CNICs issued to foreign nationals.
The allegations against Aftab remain subject to investigation, and further legal proceedings will determine the outcome of the case.
