Rehan Tariq Reportedly Detained at Lahore Airport, No Official NCCIA Confirmation

Pakistani podcaster Rehan Tariq was reportedly taken into custody by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) after arriving at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore from London, according to claims circulating widely on social media.

However, no official confirmation has been issued by the agency or Tariq’s family.

Several social media accounts alleged that NCCIA officials detained Tariq shortly after his arrival in Lahore. The exact reasons behind the reported action have not been disclosed, and authorities have not publicly confirmed whether any formal legal proceedings have been initiated.

The reports quickly gained traction online, prompting widespread discussion and calls for clarification from government officials.

Among those reacting was Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shahbaz Gill, who urged authorities to release Tariq if the reports were accurate.

“Rehan Tariq should be immediately released. Let at least some voice be allowed to remain free,” Gill wrote on social media.

Before the detention claims surfaced, Tariq’s most recent post on X was published roughly 11 hours earlier. In the post, he shared a quote attributed to football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, stating that it was his final World Cup and that he was leaving “with a clear conscience.”

The timing of the post has attracted attention online, although there is no evidence linking it to the reported detention.

As of publication, neither the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency nor any government spokesperson has issued an official statement regarding the claims. Similarly, Rehan Tariq’s family has not publicly commented on the reports.

The absence of official confirmation means the circumstances surrounding the alleged detention remain unclear. Further details are expected once authorities provide an official response or release additional information.

Until then, the reports remain based on social media claims, and the reasons behind the alleged action have not been independently verified.
