LAHORE – The Punjab government has declared the implementation of a new vehicle emission test fee structure aimed at reducing environmental pollution and combating the growing threat of smog across the province.
The new fee scheduled for emission testing will take effect from today (November 10, 2025), according to an official notification issued by the Environment Protection and Climate Change Department.
The department has set different fees based on engine capacity.
Vehicles with engines up to 1,000cc will be charged Rs500. It means the owners of Suzuki Mehran, Alto, WagonR and other vehicles with engine capacity up to 1000cc will pay Rs500 in fees for the emission testing.
Furthermore, the vehicles between 1,001cc and 1,500cc will pay Rs800.
Vehicles with engines ranging from 1,501cc to 2,500cc will be charged Rs1,000.
For vehicles with 2,501cc to 4,500cc engines, the fee will be Rs1,500.
Those exceeding 4,500cc will pay Rs2,000.
According to the notification, payments will be accepted only through the e-Pay system, after which vehicle owners will receive a confirmation SMS on their registered mobile numbers. Motorists have also been instructed to bring their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) when appearing for the test.
A spokesperson for the department stated that the initiative aims to ensure that only environmentally compliant vehicles are allowed on the roads, helping to curb air pollution and smog during the winter season.
Public response to the decision has been largely positive, with many citizens welcoming it as a step toward environmental improvement, though some have called for reduced fees and better testing facilities to make compliance easier.
The official deadline to get your emission test done is November 15, 2025. After that date, vehicles without a green sticker will be fined.
