NASA has revealed details of its ambitious project to develop a lunar railway system.

The innovative initiative, named Flexible Levitation on a Track (FLOAT), is poised to revolutionize transportation logistics on the lunar surface.

FLOAT: Pioneering Lunar Transport Technology

Led by robotics expert Ethan Schaler from NASA’s esteemed Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, FLOAT aims to provide a reliable, autonomous, and efficient means of payload transport across the Moon’s rugged terrain.

“We want to build the first lunar railway system, which will provide reliable, autonomous, and efficient payload transport on the Moon,” robotics expert Ethan Schaler of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif. said.

“A durable, long-life robotic transport system will be critical to the daily operations of a sustainable lunar base in the 2030s,” he added.
