Huawei Launches Pura X Max Foldable Phone With Larger Display and Advanced Cameras

Huawei has launched the Pura X Max, an enlarged version of its Pura X foldable smartphone, expanding its presence in the premium foldable device segment with upgraded hardware, larger displays and enhanced camera capabilities.

The device continues Huawei’s “wide foldable” concept, positioned between traditional flip phones and book-style foldables, with the company describing it as a passport-style foldable form factor.

Larger displays and redesigned form factor

The Pura X Max features a 5.4-inch external display and a 7.7-inch internal folding screen. Compared with the standard Pura X, the new model is larger but thinner, measuring 11.2mm when folded and 5.2mm when unfolded.

The device weighs 229 grams and uses a more square-shaped internal display with a resolution of 2,584 × 1,828 pixels and a 14.1:10 aspect ratio. The outer display features a 1,848 × 1,264 resolution with LTPO 2.0 technology supporting a 1Hz–120Hz adaptive refresh rate.

Both screens include high-frequency PWM dimming and HDR support.

Stylus support and durability upgrades

Huawei has added support for the M-Pen 3 Mini stylus, designed specifically for foldable use. The company also offers optional accessories, including a stylus case and a magnetic kickstand cover.

The device features an aluminum alloy frame and carries IP58 and IP59 ratings for dust and water resistance. The outer display is protected by second-generation Kunlun glass.

Performance and software

The Pura X Max is powered by Huawei’s Kirin 9030 Pro chipset, which the company says delivers around 30% higher performance compared with the previous generation processor.

The device includes a vapor chamber cooling system combined with graphene thermal management and runs on HarmonyOS 6.1 rather than Android.

Camera system

The smartphone features a triple rear camera setup consisting of a 50MP main sensor with variable aperture, a 50MP periscope telephoto lens with optical zoom, and a 12.5MP ultra-wide camera. All three sensors use RYYB technology for improved low-light performance.

On the front, the device includes two 8MP cameras placed on both displays for selfies and video calls.

Battery and charging

The Pura X Max is equipped with a 5,300mAh battery, an increase from the standard model, and supports 66W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging.

Pricing and availability

In China, pricing starts at approximately $1,615, rising to $2,055 for the highest storage variant. Huawei has not confirmed global availability.
