Netflix Records 97 Billion Viewing Hours as Global Engagement Hits Record High

Netflix said its long-term strategy focuses on creating meaningful entertainment experiences rather than simply increasing watch time

Netflix has reported its strongest six-month performance ever, with subscribers watching more than 97 billion hours of content worldwide.

The company’s latest What We Watched report highlights record audience engagement, driven by hit original series, blockbuster films, international productions, live events, documentaries, anime, and family programming.

The streaming giant said the milestone reflects its strategy of offering diverse content across genres, languages, and cultures. Netflix also announced that beginning in 2027, the What We Watched report will be published annually instead of every six months.

Netflix Records Its Biggest Engagement Milestone

According to Netflix, success is measured by more than total viewing hours. The company said it focuses on the moment users decide to press play and remain engaged with the content they choose.

The latest figures mark the highest engagement recorded during any six-month reporting period, reinforcing Netflix’s position as the world’s largest streaming platform.

New Original Series Lead Global Rankings

Fresh releases dominated Netflix’s charts, with five of the ten most-watched shows debuting during the reporting period.

The biggest television hit was His & Hers, which accumulated 104 million views.

Other top-performing new series included I Will Find You with 64 million views, Run Away with 50 million, South Korea’s Teach You a Lesson with 48 million, and Nemesis Season 1, which reached 33 million views and has already been renewed for a second season.

Returning Hits Continue to Attract Millions

Returning franchises remained a major driver of audience engagement.

Bridgerton Season 4 generated 100 million views, while renewed interest in earlier seasons pushed the entire Bridgerton franchise, including Queen Charlotte, to 180 million combined views during the six-month period.

Other returning favorites included ONE PIECE, The Night Agent, The Lincoln Lawyer, and Virgin River, all of which attracted tens of millions of viewers worldwide.

Netflix Original Movies Deliver Strong Results

Original films also posted impressive numbers.

War Machine became Netflix’s biggest movie of the period with 147 million views.

It was followed by The Rip with 136 million, Swapped with 131 million, Apex with 129 million, and Thrash with 100 million.

Animated content continued its strong momentum, with Swapped becoming one of Netflix’s most successful original animated films, while KPop Demon Hunters continued attracting viewers more than a year after its release.

Book adaptations also proved popular. People We Meet on Vacation reached 78 million views, while Remarkably Bright Creatures attracted 51 million. Romantic comedies including Office Romance and Voicemails for Isabelle also performed strongly.

International Programming Continues to Expand

Netflix said more than one-third of all viewing now comes from non-English content, highlighting the growing popularity of international productions.

South Korea remained one of the platform’s strongest markets, led by Teach You a Lesson, Can This Love Be Translated?, The Art of Sarah, Bloodhounds Season 2, and My Royal Nemesis.

Spain delivered several global hits, including Firebreak, Berlín and the Lady with an Ermine, The Marked Woman, and Oasis.

Japanese productions such as Straight to Hell and Sins of Kujo also generated strong audiences.

India Posts Its Best-Ever Performance

Netflix said India recorded its highest six-month viewing figures since the service launched in the country.

The biggest Indian success was Dhurandhar, which attracted 37 million views and became Netflix’s most-watched non-English film during the reporting period.

Other popular Indian releases included Accused, Made in Korea, and Taskaree The Smuggler’s Web.

Global Originals Continue to Gain Momentum

Netflix highlighted strong international performances from several other regions.

South Africa’s 180 reached 37 million views, while productions from Poland, Brazil, Norway, Mexico, Thailand, Italy, and Denmark also attracted large global audiences, demonstrating Netflix’s continued investment in local-language storytelling.

Live Events, Anime, and Documentaries Draw Large Audiences

Netflix continued expanding its entertainment portfolio beyond scripted programming.

Among live events, The Roast of Kevin Hart and BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG each attracted 21 million views, while Skyscraper Live, featuring climber Alex Honnold, reached 13 million viewers.

Anime remained one of the platform’s fastest-growing categories, with Netflix revealing that more than half of its subscribers have watched at least one anime title.

Documentaries also performed strongly, led by The Crash with 65 million views, followed by The Dinosaurs and Reality Check Inside America’s Next Top Model.

Family Content Remains a Key Growth Driver

Children’s programming continued to deliver substantial engagement.

Ms. Rachel became Netflix’s most-watched children’s title with 69 million views across two seasons.

Other successful family titles included Mark Rober’s CrunchLabs, Salish & Jordan Matter, and Danny Go!, reflecting continued demand for educational and family-friendly entertainment.

Netflix Looks Beyond Viewing Hours

Netflix said its long-term strategy focuses on creating meaningful entertainment experiences rather than simply increasing watch time.

With record engagement, growing international audiences, and strong performances across television, films, anime, documentaries, live events, and children’s programming, the latest What We Watched report underscores the company’s continued investment in global storytelling and diverse content that appeals to audiences around the world.
