Australian Police Open Investigation Into Historical Allegation Linked to Katy Perry

Australian authorities have launched a formal investigation into a historical sexual assault allegation linked in media reports to US pop star Katy Perry, following claims made by actor Ruby Rose.

Victoria Police confirmed that detectives from the Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team (SOCIT) are reviewing an alleged incident said to have taken place in 2010 at a licensed venue in Melbourne’s central business district. Police said no individuals have been publicly identified, citing the active nature of the investigation.

Authorities added that specialist detectives are handling the case and declined to provide further details, including evidence or identities, stating that it would be inappropriate to comment while inquiries are ongoing.

The investigation follows public allegations made earlier this month by Ruby Rose, who referenced the incident in social media posts that were later deleted. She later said the alleged event occurred “almost two decades ago” and confirmed that she had formally reported the matter to police.

In a follow-up statement, Rose said she had completed all necessary reporting procedures and would not comment further while the investigation continues, describing this as standard protocol in such cases.

Representatives for Katy Perry have strongly denied the allegations, calling them “categorically false” and “dangerous, reckless lies.” They also questioned the credibility of the claims and suggested they reflect a pattern of unverified public accusations. Perry has not issued any personal statement beyond the official response.

Victoria Police reiterated that the matter remains under active investigation and confirmed it relates to an alleged historical incident in Melbourne dating back to 2010. Officers said any further updates will depend on the outcome of ongoing inquiries.

The case has attracted significant public and media attention, moving from social media allegations to a formal police investigation. Authorities stressed that no further comment will be made at this stage as the legal process continues.
