Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced plans to provide free electric scooters to 50,000 women across the province as part of a government initiative aimed at improving women’s mobility.
Speaking at a ceremony in Mirpurkhas during the distribution of pink electric scooters, Memon said the Sindh government would continue expanding the program to help women gain easier access to transportation.
Scooters to Be Given After Training and Driving Tests
Under the initiative, women who complete the required training and pass their driving tests are eligible to receive the electric scooters.
Memon said the program would eventually be extended to eligible women in every district of Sindh.
He said the scooters were being distributed without political or other discrimination, with eligibility based on applicants’ driving skills.
Sindh Plans Pink Taxis for Women
Memon also announced plans to introduce pink taxis for women as part of broader efforts to improve transportation and mobility.
According to the minister, the initiatives are intended to support women’s participation in economic and social activities by making travel more accessible.
He also said the number of women obtaining driving licences had increased significantly as more families have become comfortable with women riding motorcycles.
Men Warned Against Using Women’s Scooters
Memon clarified that the electric scooters distributed under the program are exclusively intended for women.
He warned that authorities would take action if men were found using scooters provided under the initiative.
The Sindh government is expected to expand the electric scooter distribution program as it works toward its stated target of reaching 50,000 women across the province.
