South Korea has placed Pakistan’s Balochistan province under its highest travel warning following a recent escalation in violence and coordinated terrorist attacks, according to Yonhap News Agency.
The South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs activated its Level 4 travel alert for Balochistan at 11 p.m. Monday. Level 4 is the strongest warning under South Korea’s four-tier travel advisory system and effectively prohibits travel to designated areas.
South Korea Advises Citizens to Leave Balochistan
The South Korean government has advised citizens planning to travel to Balochistan to cancel their trips in view of the deteriorating security situation.
South Korean nationals who are already in the province have also been urged to leave the area immediately.
The travel restriction reflects concerns over the security situation in Balochistan following recent attacks and violence.
Penalties Possible for Violating Travel Restrictions
Under South Korean law, citizens who enter or remain in a Level 4 travel-restricted area without obtaining special authorization could face penalties.
The latest advisory places Balochistan among areas where the South Korean government considers travel risks sufficiently serious to warrant its strongest warning.
South Korea’s travel advisory is expected to affect citizens planning business, tourism or other visits to Balochistan until the security situation improves.
