Who is Cole Tomas Allen? Suspect in WH Dinner Shooting

The suspect arrested following the shooting incident outside the White House Correspondents’ Dinner has been identified in media reports as Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old from California.

However, U.S. authorities have not yet formally confirmed the individual’s identity as the investigation remains ongoing.

President Donald Trump confirmed that a suspect had been taken into custody after gunfire was reported near the event venue in Washington, D.C., but law enforcement officials have so far stopped short of releasing an official name.

Reported Background of the Suspect

According to publicly circulating but unverified information, Allen is believed to be a resident of Torrance, California, with an academic background in engineering and computer science.

Reports suggest he earned an engineering degree from the California Institute of Technology in 2017 and later completed a master’s degree in computer science in 2025.

Some outlets have also claimed that he worked as a teacher in Los Angeles County, though authorities have not confirmed any employment history.

Identity Not Yet Officially Confirmed

Despite the spread of identifying details online, federal agencies have emphasized that no official confirmation has been issued. Images posted on social media by President Trump appear to show a man lying on the ground at the Washington Hilton surrounded by security personnel, whom reports have identified as Allen.

Investigators have declined to comment on the authenticity of those images or the identity of the suspect shown.

Arrest, Custody, and Charges

The suspect remains in custody and was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation following his arrest. Officials said he is expected to face multiple federal charges, with an arraignment anticipated early next week.

The case is being jointly investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Secret Service.

Motive Remains Unclear

Authorities have not established a motive for the attack. While speculation has circulated online, investigators have not confirmed any political, ideological, or international links.

President Trump described the suspect as a “lone wolf” and said he did not believe the incident was connected to the ongoing conflict involving Iran. Officials are now examining how the suspect was able to approach a high-security event while allegedly carrying multiple weapons, including a shotgun, a handgun, and knives.

The investigation remains active, and officials say additional details will be released once verified.
