Imran has been prohibited from holding meetings inside Adiala jail for two weeks. Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been barred from conducting meetings inside Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail for two weeks, as reported by Geo News, citing official sources on Tuesday.
This decision has been made amidst Khan’s incarceration since September 2023, when he was transferred from Attock jail to Adiala jail.
Currently serving a cumulative sentence of 31 years across various cases, Khan had previously been allotted Mondays and Thursdays for meetings with his legal counsel, party officials, and family members.
The former Prime Minister, alongside former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, was handed a 10-year sentence each in January for their involvement in the cipher case, related to the publication of classified information.
Following this, Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, faced a 14-year sentence in the Toshakhana reference case for allegedly misusing their official positions to trade state-owned gifts valued at over Rs140 million ($635,000).
Additionally, they were fined Rs1.57 billion collectively by the court.
In a separate case, both Khan and Bushra were sentenced to seven years imprisonment each, along with a Rs500,000 fine, for their marriage taking place before the completion of the 90-day iddat period following Bushra’s divorce.
Moreover, Khan and his wife have been indicted in the £190 million case, which underwent trial within the premises of Adiala jail.
The PTI, along with Khan’s supporters, has persistently called for his release, alleging that the charges against him are fabricated and expressing apprehensions about his safety while in custody.
In recent events, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) reported the arrest of three suspected terrorists and the recovery of a map of Adiala Jail, a hand grenade, and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) from their possession.
Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Khalid Hamdani disclosed that the suspects, believed to be from Afghanistan, were found in possession of automatic weapons and ammunition.
As Imran has been prohibited from holding meetings inside Adiala jail for two weeks, this comes in the wake of a previous incident in November, when authorities discovered a suspicious bag containing an explosive device near Adiala Road in Gorakhpur, Rawalpindi, located merely one kilometer away from the jail premises.
