Hospitals across Islamabad have been placed on high alert as three political marches are expected to reach the Islamabad-Rawalpindi area in the coming days.
Hospital authorities have been directed to make emergency preparations and ensure medical facilities are ready to respond to any situation that may arise during the planned events in the Islamabad Capital Territory.
Hospital Staff Ordered to Remain Available
Assistant executive directors, medical specialists, blood bank officials, the deputy chief nursing superintendent, security officers and storekeepers have been instructed to remain at their stations.
Officials have also been directed to stay available for immediate deployment if hospitals require additional staff during the high-alert period.
Blood banks have been ordered to maintain a reserve of at least 100 blood bags to ensure sufficient supplies are available in case of mass-casualty emergencies.
Transport officials have also been told to keep all ambulances operational and ensure that drivers remain available for emergency duties.
Emergency Departments to Maintain Extra Capacity
Medical and general store officials have been directed to maintain adequate stocks of medicines and other essential supplies in emergency departments and hospital wards.
Officials responsible for oxygen supplies have also been instructed to ensure sufficient stocks of medical gases throughout the alert period.
Emergency departments will remain on high alert until further orders, with 10 beds reserved for male patients and 10 beds for female patients at each facility for emergency use.
In addition, two rooms in the Officer Ward have been designated for emergency purposes.
High Alert to Continue Until September 30
The precautionary measures are intended to ensure that hospitals can respond quickly if the political gatherings create an unexpected demand for emergency medical services.
Hospital staff have been informed that the high-alert arrangements will remain in effect until September 30, 2026, unless further instructions are issued before then.
