The government has decreased regulatory and additional customs duties on imported mobile phones for fiscal year 2026-27, cutting the regulatory duty on smartphones priced above $500 by 20 percent or Rs. 4,400 per phone.

According to a Commerce Ministry brief, the regulatory duty on Completely Built Unit (CBU) smartphones has been reduced across all major price categories.

The biggest reduction is for smartphones priced above $500, where the regulatory duty has fallen from Rs. 22,000 to Rs. 17,600 per handset.

The government has also reduced Additional Customs Duty (ACD) from 6 percent to 4 percent for the listed smartphone and cellular-phone categories.

For phones imported in Completely Knocked Down (CKD) and Semi Knocked Down (SKD) form, regulatory duty has been reduced from 5 percent to 4 percent, while ACD has also fallen from 6 percent to 4 percent.

The Commerce Ministry said the changes were introduced under the FY2026-27 budget as part of tariff rationalisation under the National Tariff Policy 2025-30.

The duty cuts come after a sharp rise in Pakistan’s mobile-phone imports.

Imports of smartphones and cellular phones increased from $1.497 billion in FY2025-26 to $1.888 billion, while CBU smartphone imports more than doubled to $357.7 million.
