Xiaomi is taking its humanoid robot out of the lab and putting it to work.
The company has unveiled its next-generation humanoid robot, Tieda, at the 2026 World Robot Conference after four months of training inside Xiaomi’s electric vehicle factory.
The robot stands around 1.70 meters tall, weighs 66 kg and has 66 degrees of freedom across its body.
Interestingly, half of those — 33 — are in its hands, giving the robot greater control when handling objects.
Tieda is getting better at factory work
Xiaomi says Tieda’s performance improved significantly during its factory training.
Its success rate for installing self-tapping nuts from both sides rose from 90.2% to 98%.
That is just one percentage point below the 99% qualification rate for human workers.
The robot also achieved a 90% success rate when sorting center-console side panels and another 90% when folding and recycling material bins.
Tieda had previously completed three hours of continuous work at the nut-installation station while meeting the factory’s 76-second production cycle.
It is learning more complicated tasks
The newer jobs are more difficult because they involve large, flexible and irregular parts.
For example, when handling center-console panels, Tieda bends forward, reaches into a container, transfers the panel between its hands, adjusts its grip and places the part correctly.
The impressive part is that Xiaomi says the robot does not simply follow a fixed list of pre-programmed movements.
Instead, it performs these actions autonomously.
AI is behind the robot
Tieda’s abilities are powered by Xiaomi’s robotics AI work.
The company has developed Xiaomi-Robotics-0, an open-source Vision-Language-Action model designed to combine what a robot sees and understands with the actions it needs to perform.
The 4.7-billion-parameter model is built for real-time robotic tasks, and Xiaomi has publicly released its model checkpoints, inference tools and post-training code.
The company has also introduced Xiaomi-Robotics-U0, a 38-billion-parameter world foundation model designed for embodied AI and generating training data for robots.
Xiaomi is betting big on robotics
Tieda is part of Xiaomi’s much wider push into artificial intelligence, electric vehicles and advanced technology.
The company spent around 9.2 billion yuan ($1.4 billion) on R&D in Q2 2026, an 18.9% increase from a year earlier.
Nearly half of Xiaomi’s workforce — 47.2% — now works in research and development.
But don’t expect to see Tieda in stores anytime soon.
Xiaomi says the robot is still a prototype undergoing internal testing.
For now, the company is focused on using humanoid robots in smart factories and eventually connecting them to its broader Human × Car × Home ecosystem.
The goal is simple: make robots better at real-world work today while building the technology for much smarter machines tomorrow.
