Nine Cousins Marry in Single Ceremony in Punjab, Reject Dowry in Powerful Social Message April 27, 2026

Nine young men from a single extended family held a rare collective wedding in Shujabad, offering a powerful example of simplicity and social responsibility at a time when rising marriage costs often place heavy pressure on families.

The ceremony, held a few days ago in the suburban town of Multan district, brought together nine grooms—Muhammad Kashif, Muhammad Asim, Muhammad Amin, Muhammad Naeem, Muhammad Naveed, Muhammad Rashid, Muhammad Bilal, Muhammad Shehbaz and Muhammad Ali—who all married their cousins in a single, shared event.

Instead of hosting separate celebrations, the family arranged one joint wedding ceremony and a combined walima reception for all nine couples.

What drew widespread attention, however, was not just the scale of the gathering but the decision by all nine grooms to categorically refuse dowry. The move was widely praised as a meaningful stand against a practice that continues to burden many families across Punjab and beyond.

Family members said the decision was made collectively and deliberately, with the aim of demonstrating that marriages can be conducted with dignity and mutual respect without imposing financial demands on the bride’s side.

They stressed that the event was not meant to set a record, but to send a clear message that extravagant spending and dowry expectations are not essential for a successful marriage.

According to relatives, the family wanted to show that simple weddings can help remove barriers that delay marriages, particularly for daughters whose families struggle to meet rising social expectations.

Videos and photos from the ceremony quickly spread on social media, where users applauded the grooms for rejecting dowry and embracing affordability. Many described the collective wedding as an inspiring example and urged others to follow suit, calling it a positive step toward easing social pressures surrounding marriage in Pakistan.
