Global leaders condemn Putin’s victory in the presidential election. In a move that extends his rule by six years, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s reelection in the country’s presidential election has ignited widespread condemnation from global leaders.
The outcome, announced by the VTsIOM poll conducted by Russian authorities, was declared just as polling concluded in Kaliningrad, Russia’s westernmost region, at 17:00 GMT.
White House questions Putin’s victory in presidential election
The White House National Security Council raised serious doubts about the legitimacy of the election process.
Citing concerns over political oppression, an official stated, “The elections are not free nor fair given how Mr. Putin has imprisoned political opponents and prevented others from running against him.”
German Denouncement of “Pseudo-Election”
Echoing these sentiments, the German Foreign Ministry denounced the election as a “pseudo-election,” highlighting its lack of fairness and freedom.
They criticized Putin’s authoritarian rule, citing censorship, repression, and violence. Moreover, the Ministry declared the “election” in the occupied territories of Ukraine as null and void, condemning it as another breach of international law.
UK Voices Concern Over Russian Actions in Ukraine
Meanwhile, the British Foreign Office expressed apprehension over Russia’s plans to hold elections in Ukraine, asserting that such actions undermine peace efforts in the region.

Despite this, the UK reaffirmed its commitment to support Ukraine by providing humanitarian, economic, and military aid, emphasizing the importance of preserving democracy in the face of Russian aggression.
