How many drug cases are pending and ongoing in courts?
The increasing number of drug cases rises the question that how many drug cases are pending and ongoing in courts. So, There are currently 3,747 cases pending or being heard in the country’s higher courts and special courts for the control of narcotic substances, with Punjab having the biggest number of these cases.
According to information from different news sources, of the total cases that will be heard up until May 30, 2022, 641 will be heard by the Supreme Court and 792 by the high courts.
Likewise, there are 2,314 cases in the special courts. 963 drug-related court cases are currently underway or being tried in Punjab courts, which is the most significant number.
There are 676 cases in the Punjab Special Court, 236 in the Punjab Registry of the Supreme Court, and 230 in the Lahore High Court.
The research states that Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has the second-highest number of drug cases. The K-P courts are now hearing 935 drug smuggling-related cases.
While 77 cases are either pending or being heard at the high court, there are 181 cases in the K-P Supreme Court Registry. There are 677 cases currently pending in the K-P special court.
There are currently 705 such cases ongoing with the Anti-Narcotics Force Regional Directorate North, of which 285 cases are with the special court and 155 cases with the Supreme Court and 265 cases with the high court.
There are 880 drug-related cases pending in Sindh’s courts. There are 185 instances in the high court and 19 in the Supreme Court involving the ANF Regional Directorate Sindh. The Sindh Special Court also has 767 of these cases.
