An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore has extended the physical remand of PTI leader Hammad Azhar by another seven days in a case related to the alleged arson and vandalism at Jinnah House during the May 9 violence.
ATC Judge Muhammad Akram announced the decision after reserving the verdict earlier. The extension follows Azhar’s previous physical remand in connection with cases linked to the May 9 incidents.
Hammad Azhar Meets Sisters in Court
During the hearing, Azhar met his sisters inside the courtroom. They briefly spoke to him and asked about his well-being while he remains in custody.
The development comes after Azhar’s family had previously sought permission to meet him during his physical remand.
An ATC had directed his mother and wife to approach police authorities for permission to meet him in accordance with the applicable custody rules.
Azhar Alleges Political Vendetta
During the proceedings, Hammad Azhar alleged that the cases against him were politically motivated.
“I am being targeted for a political vendetta,” Azhar said, according to the report.
The case concerns the Jinnah House arson and vandalism during the May 9 violence in Lahore.
Azhar was arrested earlier this month and subsequently handed over to Lahore Police in connection with multiple May 9-related cases, including the Jinnah House attack.
The latest court order means Azhar will remain in police custody for another seven days as the investigation into the case continues.
