Elon Musk-owned X has begun a wider rollout of X Money, a new financial platform that enables users to manage money, make payments, and access banking features without leaving the social media app.
The service is now being introduced to X Premium and Premium+ subscribers across the United States following a limited testing phase. X has not yet confirmed when the feature will become available in other countries.
The launch marks another major step in Musk’s broader vision of transforming X into an “everything app” that combines social networking, communications, payments, and financial services under one platform.
X Introduces Built-In Payments and Banking Features
With X Money, users can send, receive, and request funds instantly from other X users at no additional cost, according to the company.
The platform also includes a deposit account that supports everyday banking activities such as paying bills, sending wire transfers, and issuing paper cheques. Users can link their salaries through direct deposit, with qualifying payments arriving as much as two days before the scheduled payday.
The addition of financial services significantly expands X’s functionality beyond its traditional role as a social media platform.

Deposit Accounts Offer Up to 6% APY
One of the headline features of X Money is the opportunity to earn up to 6% annual percentage yield (APY) on eligible balances.
The highest rate is available to Premium+ subscribers, while Premium members can also qualify after meeting the platform’s direct deposit requirements.
Deposit accounts are provided through Cross River Bank, a member of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Standard deposits are insured for up to $250,000 per depositor.
In addition, X says eligible balances can receive coverage of up to $10 million through a cash sweep programme that distributes funds among participating banks.
X Card Adds Cashback and Mobile Wallet Support
Alongside the banking service, X has introduced the X Card, a Visa debit card available in both virtual and physical metal versions.
The card offers 3% cashback on qualifying purchases, free ATM withdrawals, and no foreign transaction fees. Users can also add the card to Apple Pay and Google Pay for contactless payments.
Enhanced Security for Financial Transactions
X Money incorporates several security features aimed at protecting users’ accounts and transactions.
The platform uses passkeys for authentication rather than relying solely on passwords. Users can also set spending limits and require additional verification before certain payments are completed.
Transactions made through the X Card are protected by Visa’s fraud prevention and risk management systems.
Part of Musk’s Long-Term Strategy
The introduction of X Money reflects Elon Musk’s long-standing ambition to integrate financial services into the platform.
Before acquiring Twitter and renaming it X, Musk founded X.com in 1999, an online financial company that later merged with Confinity to become PayPal.
Since taking ownership of X, Musk has repeatedly described his goal of creating a comprehensive digital platform where users can communicate, shop, make payments, and manage their finances from a single application.
While X Money is currently limited to Premium subscribers in the United States, the company is expected to expand the service more broadly as it continues developing its financial ecosystem.
