Israel has reportedly shared intelligence with the United States alleging that Iran recently developed a new plan to assassinate US President Donald Trump, according to separate reports by The Wall Street Journal and CNN.
The reported intelligence has heightened security concerns amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran. However, US officials have not independently confirmed the existence of the alleged plot.
Israel reportedly warned Washington
According to The Wall Street Journal, Israeli officials recently informed the Trump administration that their intelligence services had uncovered information suggesting Iran was planning an assassination attempt against the US president.
CNN, citing two sources familiar with the matter, reported that the intelligence referred to a specific and newly identified alleged plot. The warning was reportedly delivered to US officials earlier this week.
One source told CNN that although American intelligence agencies had been monitoring ongoing threats against Trump in recent weeks, the Israeli assessment described a more specific alleged plan than previously identified.
Despite the warning, US intelligence agencies had not been tracking the alleged plot before receiving the Israeli information, and officials have not independently verified its credibility.
Some officials urge caution
According to CNN, some US officials believe the Israeli intelligence should be viewed cautiously until it can be independently corroborated.
Officials also suggested the information could be part of broader diplomatic and strategic discussions as President Trump considers whether to expand US military operations against Iran.
Neither the White House nor US intelligence agencies have publicly confirmed the reported intelligence.
Trump says Iran wants him dead
When asked about the reports, the White House referred reporters to Trump’s recent remarks during the NATO summit in Ankara.
Trump said Iran had repeatedly targeted him.
“They want to take out the US leader — me.”
He added that he believed he remained at the top of Iran’s list of assassination targets.
“I’m on every single one of their lists. So far I’ve been lucky, but maybe that doesn’t last very long.”
Trump also claimed he had recently learned about a new list identifying him as Iran’s highest-priority target, although he did not clarify whether he was referring to the intelligence reportedly provided by Israel.
Long-standing security concerns
US authorities have for years warned of potential Iranian retaliation against Trump following the 2020 US drone strike that killed Qasem Soleimani.
American intelligence agencies continue to monitor individuals and groups believed to have discussed possible attacks against current and former US officials.
According to CNN, investigators remain vigilant, but no operational action connected to the latest reported threat has been confirmed.
Diplomacy continues despite tensions
The intelligence reports come as Washington and Tehran remain engaged in heightened military and diplomatic tensions following recent exchanges of strikes despite an earlier ceasefire arrangement.
Benjamin Netanyahu has publicly questioned President Trump’s diplomatic approach toward Iran. The two leaders recently spoke by telephone, and Netanyahu is expected to visit Washington in the coming weeks.
Although Trump recently declared that the US-Iran memorandum of understanding was effectively over, CNN reported that behind-the-scenes diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching a new nuclear agreement remain active, with negotiators reportedly working toward a framework by mid-August.
Neither the US government nor the Iranian government has officially commented on the latest intelligence reports, and the alleged assassination plot remains unverified by American intelligence agencies.
