The Punjab government has appointed all deputy commissioners (DCs) as interim chairpersons of the newly established Suthra Punjab agencies in their respective districts.
According to an official notification, the appointments have been made under Section 11(2) of the Suthra Punjab Authority Act, 2026, providing temporary leadership for the district-level agencies.
DCs to Lead District Suthra Punjab Agencies
The notification stated that the deputy commissioners were designated as chairpersons on the directions of the Local Government and Community Development Minister, who also serves as vice chairperson of the Suthra Punjab Authority.
Under the arrangement, each DC will lead the Suthra Punjab agency established in their respective district and oversee its affairs during the interim period.
Temporary Appointments Until Permanent Chairs Named
The appointments are temporary and will remain in place until regular chairpersons are nominated by the chief minister or until further orders are issued.
The arrangement is intended to ensure that the newly established district agencies have leadership while the process for appointing permanent chairpersons is completed.
DCs to Oversee Agency Operations
As interim chairpersons, the deputy commissioners will be responsible for convening and presiding over agency meetings.
They will also oversee the agencies’ statutory, administrative and operational affairs, according to the notification.
The appointments provide an interim administrative structure for the Suthra Punjab agencies at the district level until permanent chairpersons are selected.
