The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has removed Khurram Fakhar Siddique, a BS-18 officer of the Inland Revenue Service, from government service after disciplinary proceedings found the charges of misconduct and corruption against him established.
According to an FBR notification, the disciplinary process concluded that the allegations against the officer were proven. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, acting as the competent authority, imposed the major penalty of removal from service with immediate effect under the Civil Servants (Efficiency and Discipline) Rules, 2020.
The decision means Siddique has been removed from his government position with immediate effect following the conclusion of the disciplinary proceedings.
FBR officer has right to appeal
The notification also provides the officer with a right to challenge the decision.
Siddique can file an appeal before the relevant Appellate Authority within 30 days of receiving the notification, in accordance with the applicable disciplinary procedure.
The appeal process provides an opportunity for the officer to contest the penalty imposed through the departmental proceedings.
FBR strengthens internal accountability
The action comes as the FBR continues efforts to address misconduct and corruption within its ranks.
The tax authority has repeatedly emphasized disciplinary action against officials found involved in corrupt practices. FBR has also established channels through which taxpayers can submit complaints regarding the conduct of its officials.
The latest disciplinary action highlights the authority’s use of the Civil Servants (Efficiency and Discipline) Rules, 2020, in cases involving alleged misconduct and corruption.
For the officer concerned, however, the disciplinary decision remains subject to the available appeal process, with the notification allowing 30 days to approach the Appellate Authority after its receipt.
