Pakistan’s National Information Technology Board (NITB) has reported major progress in the implementation of its E-Office system, with the digital platform now operational across 42 federal government organizations, helping reduce costs, improve efficiency, and accelerate public sector decision-making.
According to official documents, the transition from paper-based administration to digital file management has already saved the government up to Rs. 300 million in stationery expenses while reducing document processing times by as much as 80 percent.
The initiative forms part of the federal government’s broader digital transformation strategy aimed at modernizing public administration through technology-driven governance.
E-Office Replaces Paper-Based File Processing
The E-Office application enables government departments to process official files electronically instead of relying on traditional paper documents.
The digital platform allows authorized officials to create, review, update, approve, and share files through a secure online workspace, significantly reducing delays associated with the physical movement of documents.
Officials say the system also minimizes the risk of files being lost, misplaced, or damaged while improving transparency and record management across government institutions.
Thousands of Government Employees Using the Platform
According to official figures, the E-Office system is currently being used by 6,760 government employees across participating federal organizations.
The platform now contains:
- 67,998 electronic files
- 407,097 digital documents
Officials said digital access enables users to retrieve information instantly, helping departments make faster decisions and devote more time to policy implementation rather than manual administrative processes.
Faster Processing and Lower Administrative Costs
The government says digital workflows have significantly improved operational efficiency.
Key reported achievements include:
- Up to Rs. 300 million saved in stationery costs.
- Up to 80 percent reduction in file processing time.
- Faster sharing of official documents between departments.
- Improved transparency and accountability.
- Reduced dependence on paper-based administration.
The shift is expected to lower long-term administrative costs while improving public sector productivity.
Disaster Recovery System Enhances Data Security
To strengthen business continuity, the E-Office platform is supported by a Disaster Recovery Capacity capable of managing up to 500 million data points.
The backup infrastructure is designed to protect government records against data loss, system failures, and other operational disruptions, ensuring secure storage and rapid recovery of digital information.
Officials say the system provides an additional layer of resilience for critical government operations.
Part of Pakistan’s Digital Transformation Agenda
The E-Office platform was developed by the National Information Technology Board (NITB) under the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication as one of Pakistan’s flagship e-governance initiatives.
Development of the platform began after the establishment of NITB in 2014, with implementation taking place in multiple phases.
A major milestone was achieved in 2022, when deployment across all federal ministries and divisions was completed.
The government says expanding digital governance remains a key component of its long-term strategy to improve service delivery, increase efficiency, and modernize public sector administration through technology.
