Pakistan women’s cricket team captain Fatima Sana has urged the Pakistan Cricket Board to introduce a dedicated women’s cricket league in the country, saying it is essential for long-term development and international competitiveness.
Speaking in Lahore, she said a stronger domestic structure, combined with greater exposure to international players, could significantly raise the standard of women’s cricket in Pakistan.
Push for a stronger domestic structure
Fatima Sana said a proper women’s league has been long awaited and would play a key role in improving skills, fitness, and match awareness among players.
She added that the inclusion of foreign cricketers in domestic competitions would help local players learn faster and adapt to higher levels of pressure.
Focus on World Cup preparation
The captain highlighted that the team is currently in an important preparation phase ahead of the upcoming World Cup, where building combinations and improving consistency will be crucial.
She said this period gives the squad a valuable opportunity to strengthen its performance at the international level.
International series to build experience
Fatima Sana noted that Pakistan will gain important match exposure through upcoming home series, including Zimbabwe’s tour and a scheduled visit from Ireland.
She said these matches will help the team adapt to different playing conditions and improve overall confidence ahead of major tournaments.
Encouraging an aggressive approach
The captain also said players have been encouraged to adopt a more attacking style of cricket, reflecting modern demands in the T20 format.
She added that recent domestic performances suggest positive progress under this approach.
Building a strong T20 unit
Fatima Sana stressed the importance of forming a balanced and consistent squad ahead of the T20 World Cup, noting that in the shortest format, individual performances can quickly change the outcome of a match.
As an all-rounder, she also expressed her personal goal of contributing more consistently with both bat and ball to help Pakistan achieve stronger results on the international stage.
