Mari Energies Limited has reported a significant natural gas discovery at the Tibri-1 exploratory well in the Kalchas South Block, located in the Dera Bugti district, Balochistan, the company announced in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).
The Kalchas South joint venture is operated by United Energy Pakistan Limited (UEPL) with a 46% working interest, while Mari Energies holds 44%, and Dewan Petroleum (Pvt.) Limited (DPL) owns the remaining 10% stake.
Tibri-1 Well Drilled to 7,170 Feet
Tibri-1 is the first exploratory well drilled in the Kalchas South Block. The well was spudded on November 11, 2025, and drilled to a total depth of 7,170 feet. Initial testing focused on the Dunghan/Sui Main Limestone (SML) formation and delivered promising results.
The well produced 11 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas at a 64/64″ choke with a wellhead flowing pressure of 561 psig and 6.5 MMSCFD at a 32/64″ choke with a pressure of 1,161 psig. Further tests are ongoing to fully assess the well’s potential.
Resumption of Exploration After Security Challenges
Mari Energies noted that exploration in the area had been dormant for years due to security challenges. However, after the joint venture acquired DPL’s working interest in July 2023, drilling and exploration activities resumed, culminating in the Tibri-1 gas discovery.
Strengthening Pakistan’s Domestic Energy Supply
The company highlighted that the discovery reinforces the joint venture’s commitment to expanding Pakistan’s domestic hydrocarbon resources and supporting the country’s energy security and supply base.
Mari Energies and UEPL are expected to continue evaluation and testing in the coming months to determine commercial viability and potential production plans for the Kalchas South Block.
