Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has officially declared 2025 as a year of major education reforms in Punjab, unveiling a wide-ranging plan aimed at improving education quality, access, and governance across the province.
One of the most significant announcements is the expansion of the Punjab laptop scheme, under which the government will distribute 10,000 laptops to students of private educational institutions.
Punjab Education Reforms 2025: Key Highlights
Speaking about the performance of the Punjab Education Department, Rana Sikandar Hayat said the government remains committed to strengthening the education system, building on reforms initiated last year.
He revealed that the government successfully eliminated nearly 2 million ghost enrolments from schools. Additionally, the longstanding teacher shortage in Punjab was addressed through the rationalization of 26,000 teachers.
Historic Syllabus and Examination Reforms Introduced
The education minister highlighted that the Punjab government introduced historic syllabus reforms, modernizing curricula to meet current educational and market needs.
He also announced major examination reforms, including the transition of examination boards to e-marking systems, which are expected to improve transparency, efficiency, and fairness in the assessment process.
Focus on Early Childhood Education and School Nutrition
Rana Sikandar Hayat said that Early Childhood Education (ECE) remains a top priority in Punjab’s education policy. The government has established ECE rooms in 10,000 schools across the province.
In addition, the school nutrition program now provides daily meals to 1.1 million students, helping improve student health, attendance, and learning outcomes.
School Upgrades, Governance, and Teacher Accountability
According to the minister, the Punjab government has upgraded 268 schools and resolved 37 harassment cases involving teachers, reinforcing accountability and safer learning environments.
He also confirmed that principals were appointed on merit in 450 colleges, while the appointment process for vice chancellors in 29 public universities has been completed.
Laptop Scheme Expanded to Private Students
The expansion of the Punjab laptop scheme 2025 to include private-sector students is aimed at promoting digital inclusion and reducing the technology gap between public and private education systems.
The minister stated that this initiative will help students access digital learning resources and prepare for a technology-driven future.
