SC dismisses Daniyal Aziz’s plea against election rival

The Supreme Court dismissed PML-N leader Daniyal Aziz’s suit against his election rival, calling it futile.

On Monday, a three-judge bench of Pakistan’s top court, led by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, heard a plea filed by PML-N leader Daniyal Aziz against election candidate Tariq Anees.

Anees lost elections in both 2013 and 2018, according to Aziz’s counsel.

The CJP remarked that a man who had been rejected twice by the people deserved no more punishment! The CJP pondered what benefit there would be in branding an already vanquished person fraudulent.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah observed that 13 years had passed and the court had only imposed a five-year sentence. He noted that if he had been found guilty, his five-year sentence would have been completed by now.

The petition was dismissed and declared ineffective by the apex court.

In 2008, Daniyal Aziz filed a complaint against Tariq Anees for rigging elections with unethical means.
