ISLAMABAD: The Advocate General of Islamabad stated on Thursday that he would submit a formal complaint with the chief justice of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against a judge who allegedly gave an unconstitutional judgement on a media personality’s appeal.
When Baig was brought before the court on Wednesday, Islamabad Advocate General Niazullah Niazi claimed it was not legitimate for the court to provide observation. He went on to say that the complaint would be filed within the next two days.
Niazi said that he informed Prime Minister Imran Khan on the Noor Moqadam, Osama Satti, and other cases, including the one involving Baig, in the presence of Pakistan’s attorney general.
The Advocate General’s Office would file a formal complaint with the IHC chief justice against the judge concerned, according to Niazi. When the police showed Baig in court, it was not legally right for the court to issue observation, according to Niazi.
Niazi stated that he would attend the hearing of Baig’s case in the Islamabad High Court on Friday (today). After the briefing, the prime minister stressed that no one was above the law, whether from the media or any other department, according to Niazi.
Imran added that bad information was being spread against the government through numerous channels, according to Niazi. Some groups were even portraying the government’s beneficial deeds in a negative way. He went on to say that the media presented people who were doing good work in a negative light.
On Wednesday, the FIA’s Cyber Crime Wing and Islamabad police detained Baig at his home. On the complaint of Federal Minister Murad Saeed, the FIA filed a case against Baig, while the police filed a second case under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
In the case filed at the Margalla police station, Baig’s son was also named. According to the FIA, Baig, his son, and employees perpetrated the crime by shooting government employees. Baig was ordered to report to the police for a three-day physical remand by an anti-terrorism court.
Baig’s wife filed a challenge to the terrorist charge in the IHC on Thursday. She asked the court to reject the terrorism charge against Baig, claiming that the police had filed a false and unsubstantiated case against him at the Margalla police station.
The FIA had opened an investigation into Baig after the latter made unethical remarks about Murad Saeed on a private TV channel.
The programme was heavily criticised by government officials, and the media regulator issued a show-cause notice to the channel.
