Govt opens online applications for arms licences in Punjab. The interim government in Punjab has implemented new regulations enabling residents and businesses in the region to apply for arms licenses through an online platform, as per the Punjab Arms Rules 2023.

This move aims to streamline the application process, allowing eligible individuals to obtain licenses for personal, institutional, security, and business purposes, specifically for non-prohibited bore weapons.

However, this convenience comes with a substantial cost, as the government has raised the arms license fee from Rs20,000 to 50,000, marking a substantial surge of approximately 150 percent.

This increase, greenlit by the Law and Parliamentary Affairs Department, has stirred discussions among the public.

Under the newly established rules, applicants must adhere to stringent eligibility criteria. Prospective license holders must be permanent residents of Pakistan, possessing a valid Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) and a Punjab domicile.

Additionally, applicants should be over 20 years of age, active taxpayers, and have a clean criminal record.

Notably, the government will not issue arms licenses to individuals with a history of criminal convictions or those evading legal authorities.

Moreover, applicants should not be affiliated with any proscribed organization or involved in any anti-state activities.

The implementation of these rules underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the responsible possession of firearms within the region.

While the increased fee has raised concerns, proponents argue that the stringent eligibility criteria will enhance public safety and prevent arms from falling into the wrong hands.

As Govt opens online applications for arms licences in Punjab, this initiative reflects a balance between individual rights and public security, addressing the need for stringent regulations in an era where responsible arms ownership is paramount.

As the online application system becomes operational, residents and businesses alike are expected to adhere to these guidelines, ensuring a safer environment for everyone involved.
