Is China taking over the global auto industry?
The global automotive industry is changing rapidly and competition among rivals in increasing with each passing day.
Interestingly, many Europe’s legendary car engineers and designers are being drawn to China’s rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) sector.
This rapid shift has not only strengthening China’s automotive market but is reshaping the global perception of Chinese car brands.

Among these prominent names is Wolfgang Egger, a design icon behind the luxury cars of European giants like Alfa Romeo, Audi, and Lamborghini.
Today, Egger plays a pivotal role at BYD where he serves as the chief designer.
Similarly, Giles Taylor, who spent much of his illustrious career at Rolls-Royce and is credited with designing the iconic Phantom, has joined China’s FAW.
Tasked with crafting the luxury Hongqi brand, Taylor’s talents are now focused on creating the “Chinese Rolls-Royce.”
Peter Horbury, whose name is synonymous with Volvo’s success, also transitioned to the Chinese automotive sector following Geely’s acquisition of Volvo.

Now, Horbury dedicates his efforts to shaping the future of Chinese car design, with his latest project being the Zeekr 001, an EV that reflects his mastery and innovative approach.
Other European veterans, such as Stefan Sielaff, former chief designer of Bentley, have also joined Geely, while Klaus Zyciora Bischoff, the creative force behind numerous renowned European models, now works at Changan, where he oversees the development of advanced electric cars like the Avatr and Deepal.
