PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah criticizes PPP’s coalition approach. Rana Sanaullah, a prominent figure within the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has launched a scathing critique against the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) for handling coalition dynamics within the central government.

His remarks, reported by The News on Tuesday, shed light on growing tensions within the coalition.

PPP’s Attitude Under Scrutiny

Sanaullah’s criticism primarily revolves around the PPP’s stance on appointing key officials, notably the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) chairman.

He accused the PPP of maintaining a consistently negative disposition, potentially influencing other coalition partners.

Despite these challenges, Sanaullah affirmed his party’s commitment to advancing its agenda.

“The attitude of the PPP will remain the same throughout the tenure of the government. Look at their reaction to the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) chairman [appointment] issue,” Sanaullah said while speaking on Geo News’ programme “Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath”.

“It is clear, they will have their own position on everything. An impression is coming from allies to have the same attitude. However, we will try to move forward,” he added.

Controversy Over IRSA Chairman Appointment

The controversy erupted when the PPP strongly objected to the appointment of Zafar Mahmood, a retired grade 22 federal government officer, as the IRSA chairman by the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led government.

The PPP argued that Mahmood’s appointment disregarded constitutional procedures. In response, the government retracted Mahmood’s appointment following assurances to Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

Lack of Direct Communication Highlighted

Sanaullah also criticized what he perceived as a lack of direct communication between the PPP and PML-N. He suggested that the PPP should have approached his party directly instead of resorting to media statements.

Drawing a comparison between Shehbaz Sharif’s response and what he believed Nawaz Sharif, the PML-N’s leader, would have done, Sanaullah implied a disconnect in coalition coordination.

PML-N’s History of Accommodation

Emphasizing the PML-N’s track record of accommodating allies, Sanaullah referenced the formation of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government following the removal of former Prime Minister Imran Khan through a vote of no confidence.

He highlighted the generosity shown by Shehbaz Sharif’s government towards coalition partners during this period.
