Shehbaz urges Bilawal to be politically mature after PPP chief’s advice to Nawaz.
In a press conference held in Quetta, Shehbaz Sharif, president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and former prime minister, extended a cordial reference to Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), as a “younger brother.”
Sharif highlighted their collaborative efforts during their 16-month stint under the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) coalition government.
The exchange comes in response to a recent statement by Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari advising Nawaz Sharif to “focus on Lahore.” The former foreign minister’s comments urged Sharif to address issues within Punjab, cautioning against venturing into other provinces, particularly Sindh, ahead of the general polls on February 8, 2024.
PML-N’s Seat Adjustment Strategy in Sindh
As the political landscape intensifies, the PML-N has initiated swift efforts towards seat adjustments in Sindh, with aspirations of forming a coalition government if they secure a majority in the upcoming elections.
A PML-N delegation, led by its leadership, visited Karachi to communicate their intentions regarding seat adjustments.
Shehbaz Sharif’s Balochistan Visit
During his visit to Balochistan, Shehbaz Sharif pledged to bring prosperity to the province, which he noted has been historically deprived of robust infrastructure.
He extended an invitation to Baloch politician Sardar Lashkari Raisani to join the PML-N, asserting that his inclusion would strengthen the party.
Sharif emphasized the importance of collaborative problem-solving, urging leaders to unite to address economic and social challenges.
Nawaz Sharif’s Critique of PTI
PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), questioning its failure to bring about tangible development in Balochistan since coming into power in 2018.
He challenged the effectiveness of the proclaimed “change-makers” and lamented the persistent issues of poverty, backwardness, and economic challenges.
Nawaz Sharif expressed condolences to the father of a teenager who lost his life during the May 9 riots, promising cooperation in arranging legal support.
Following a series of meetings with party leaders and workers in Quetta, Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif, and key PML-N figures, including Maryam Nawaz, Parvez Rashid, and Maryam Aurangzeb, departed for Lahore.
As Shehbaz urges Bilawal to be politically mature after PPP chief’s advice to Nawaz, the leaders aim to regroup and strategize as the political landscape evolves in the run-up to the 2024 elections.
