UAE’s reading competition for students to start this month

To encourage kids around the UAE to read as much as they can, the Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT) Abu Dhabi is introducing the most recent iteration of the Creative Reader Competition. UAE’s reading competition for students to start this month.

The annual UAE’s reading competition for students to start this month, which takes place from January to April, is organised by MAKTABA, the library management division of DCT Abu Dhabi.

The competition encourages kids to support Abu Dhabi’s public libraries in addition to promoting reading in Arabic and English. It is accessible to all UAE public and private school children, and this year, kindergarten kids have been introduced in addition to the elementary and intermediate levels, often referred to as cycle 1 and cycle 2.

Students must join MAKTABA, register through its website, and pass a personal screening in order to participate. They must read as many books as possible, fill out the competition form, and submit it on time.

Public libraries, schools, and the MAKTABA website all stock a particular booklet that has all the information.

The judging panel will assess entries based on elements like the percentage of booklet completion, the number of books borrowed from public libraries, the degree of reading comprehension, as well as linguistic, critical analysis, and creative thinking abilities.

Participants can borrow books from MAKTABA branches in Abu Dhabi as well as the MAKTABA digital library. There is also an option to join virtual reading clubs.

627 participants, including those with impairments, competed in the most recent Creative Reader Competition, marking an increase of almost 111% year over year (YoY).
