Saba Qamar to Portray ‘Anmol Pinky’ in Biopic on Karachi Drug Case

Pakistani actress Saba Qamar is set to take on one of the most controversial roles of her career, as she is reportedly cast as “Anmol Pinky” in an upcoming biopic television drama inspired by a recent high-profile criminal case in Karachi.

The project, which is currently in the development phase, is based on the life of Anmol, also known as Pinky, whose arrest earlier this year sparked widespread debate across social media, news platforms, and legal circles.

The script is being written by senior journalist and television anchor Shahzaib Khanzada, marking a rare crossover between investigative journalism and long-form television storytelling.

While producers have yet to announce an official title or release timeline, the drama is expected to chronicle Anmol’s rise, arrest, and the subsequent investigation that unfolded after she was taken into custody by Karachi Police.

Anmol was arrested on May 12 during a police raid in the Garden area of Karachi. Following her detention, investigators publicly detailed what they described as a sophisticated narcotics supply operation allegedly spanning multiple cities. According to police officials, the case quickly escalated from a local arrest into a multi-agency investigation.

South Deputy Inspector General Syed Asad Raza told reporters that investigators believe Anmol operated a delivery-based cocaine distribution network using riders who supplied narcotics across different regions. Authorities allege that she avoided permanent staffing arrangements, instead relying on loosely connected associates to reduce traceability.

Investigators further claim that Anmol left her home at a young age and moved from Karachi to Lahore, initially pursuing opportunities in modelling and film. Police allege that this phase of her life later intersected with criminal activity, leading to her alleged involvement in drug trafficking.

As the case progressed, authorities said they uncovered alleged financial links with multiple individuals, including a retired police officer.

Law enforcement agencies claim that Anmol accumulated properties and financial assets during the period under investigation. Several bank accounts have reportedly been frozen, and properties seized as part of the legal proceedings.

Officials state that a total of 28 criminal cases were registered against Anmol between 2018 and 2026 across Karachi and Lahore. Due to the scale of the allegations, multiple federal bodies, including the Federal Investigation Agency, Anti-Narcotics Force, and National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency, are assisting with ongoing inquiries.

The planned biopic represents an unusual move for Pakistani television, as it brings a recent and unresolved criminal case to the screen rather than relying on historical or fictionalized narratives. Industry observers say the project could test the boundaries of storytelling, censorship, and public interest.

With Saba Qamar expected to headline the drama, the project is already drawing attention from audiences and critics alike. Known for her intense performances and willingness to take on complex characters, Qamar’s involvement is likely to fuel both viewership and debate once production officially begins.
