‘Send Rs 500 to Aamir Khan if you enjoyed Laal Singh Chaddha on OTT’: Manav Vij

When “Laal Singh Chaddha” was released in August of this year, it did not do well at the box office. It starred Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh, and Naga Chaitanya.

Only Rs 58.73 crore was made by the movie, a remake of the 1994 Tom Hanks blockbuster “Forrest Gump.” It came about as a result of widespread social media boycotting and trending of an old Aamir interview in which the actor discussed the “increasing intolerance” in the nation. The movie, however, received a fresh lease on life when it was made available on Netflix. It received positive feedback from a portion of the audience.

Manav Vij, who played a Pakistani soldier, discovered that people had apologised to him on Twitter for missing the movie “Laal Singh Chaddha” in theatres. Manav, however, believes that since Aamir Khan’s production company lost money as a result of the same group of people’s no-show in the theatres, donations should be made instead of condolences.

While promoting his newest web series, “Tanaav,” Manav told Mid-Day that “many people also apologised to me on Twitter, stating they didn’t watch Laal Singh Chaddha in theatres as a result of the boycott trend. He even said that these folks “should have transferred Rs 500 to Aamir Khan Productions’ account. But they loved it when they watched it on Netflix. Because of your (people’s) ignorance, the producers are at a loss.

The plot of “Laal Singh Chaddha” centres on Laal, played by Aamir, who is portrayed as a man with a low IQ. Although he is not aware that Mohammed, played by Manav, is a Pakistani soldier, he serves in the Indian army during the 1999 India-Pakistan conflict and ultimately saves his life. Later, the two develop a friendship. Advait Chandan was the director of the picture.
