People are in ‘pain’ over price spiral, PM admits

Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Thursday that the people are in “suffering” as a result of the country’s increasing prices.

Imran Khan has asked the relevant authorities to expedite the registration procedure for the Ehsaas Ration Program so that the largest number of needy households can benefit.

He also highlighted involving district government authorities to create awareness among Karyana (grocery shops) outlets and potential beneficiaries in this regard, while chairing a meeting on the Ehsaas Ration Program.

The prime minister had previously been informed that under the Ehsaas Ration Program, a monthly subsidy of Rs 1,000 on wheat, ghee, and pulses would be provided to 20 million households in the country with monthly incomes of less than Rs 50,000.

The prime minister was informed that the initiative would begin on December 15, 2021, across the country. The program’s registration of Karyana stores is still underway, with over 15000 Karyana establishments having been registered thus far.

Dr Sania Nishtar, Special Assistant on Poverty Alleviation, Shaukat Fayyaz Tarin, Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan Khalid Khurshid, Special Assistant on Political Communication Dr Shehbaz Gill, and other top officers attended the meeting.

Sardar Usman Buzdar, Chief Minister of Punjab, Mahmood Khan of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan Niazi, all joined the meeting through video link.
