The government has taken a major step toward modernizing public services by deciding to shift Pakistan’s passport system to a fully digital model.

The new system will allow citizens to renew passports online and receive them directly at their homes.

The goal of the reform is to reduce long waiting times, cut down repeated visits to passport offices, and make the entire process more convenient for the public.

Online passport renewal from home

Under the new system, citizens will be able to apply for passport renewal through an official mobile application without visiting passport offices for routine steps.

Once the online application process is completed, passports will be delivered directly to applicants’ homes. Officials say this change will make the service faster, simpler, and more user-friendly.

The facility will be available through the government’s official passport mobile application, which will serve as the main platform for digital applications.

Move toward a zero paper system

As part of this reform, the government plans to gradually phase out manual passport renewal services. Officials said the long-term goal is to create a completely paperless system where all passport services are handled digitally.

Passport services to be integrated with NADRA centres

The government has also approved the establishment of passport service counters at NADRA centres across the country.

Officials said integrating passport services with NADRA centres will ease pressure on existing passport offices and improve overall service delivery.
