Pioneer Cement Limited has approved the installation of a 28.265 megawatt solar power plant at its manufacturing facility in Khushab, marking a significant step toward reducing energy costs and improving operational efficiency in Pakistan’s cement sector.

According to a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange, the Board of Directors has sanctioned the project for its plant located in Chenki, Jauharabad, District Khushab.

The company expects the solar power facility to be commissioned and begin commercial operations in the second quarter of fiscal year 2026-27. Once operational, the plant is expected to provide a substantial portion of the facility’s energy requirements through renewable sources.

Pioneer Cement said the investment reflects its long-term strategy focused on operational excellence, sustainability, and value creation for shareholders. Energy costs remain one of the most significant expenses for cement manufacturers in Pakistan, making alternative energy solutions increasingly important for profitability.

The project will be financed entirely through the company’s internal cash flows, according to the disclosure. This indicates financial stability and a self-funded approach to expansion without relying on external borrowing.

Industry analysts note that the initiative aligns with a broader shift across Pakistan’s cement sector, where companies are increasingly adopting captive solar and renewable energy systems to reduce dependence on the national grid and hedge against rising electricity tariffs.

The transition toward solar energy is also part of a wider industrial trend aimed at improving environmental performance and reducing carbon emissions, particularly in energy-intensive manufacturing sectors.

Once completed, the Khushab solar installation is expected to enhance energy security at the plant while contributing to more stable production costs in the long term, strengthening Pioneer Cement’s competitive position in the market.
