Punjab CM orders crackdown against underage drivers. In a tragic incident that unfolded in Lahore’s Defence Phase 7, a family of six lost their lives in a fatal collision caused by an underage driver named Afnan.
Following the disturbing event, Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi swiftly responded by ordering a comprehensive crackdown on underage drivers throughout the province.
Expressing deep concern over the incident, Naqvi directed top law enforcement officials, including the Inspector General of Punjab Police, the Capital City Police Officer Lahore, and Regional Police Officers, to take immediate and stringent action against individuals operating cars and bikes without the requisite licenses.
The catalyst for this crackdown was the appalling incident involving Afnan, who not only engaged in reckless driving but also allegedly harassed and threatened the victims before the fatal collision.
According to reports, Afnan had been tailing the victims’ car, persistently following them from Y Block. Despite attempts by the victims to evade him, the accused continued to harass the family.
The situation escalated when the victim’s driver, Hasnain, confronted Afnan about his behavior.
Even Hasnain’s father, traveling in a separate vehicle, intervened, urging Afnan to cease his harassment. Tragically, the confrontation culminated in Afnan ramming his car into the victim’s vehicle at a staggering speed of 160 km/hour near McDonald’s Chowk.
The impact of the collision sent Hasnain’s car careening 70 feet away from the road, resulting in the immediate loss of all occupants. Despite the gravity of the situation, the accused managed to flee the scene, leaving behind a shocked community.
Law enforcement authorities acted swiftly, taking Afnan into custody. The case has been handed over to Deputy Superintendent Kahna, with charges of terrorism and murder added to the First Information Report (FIR). This underscores the intentional and threatening behavior that preceded the fatal accident.
