Imran Khan, who was Pakistan’s 22nd prime minister and was detained on August 5 after being found guilty in the Toshakhana case, has been imprisoned for 60 days. He was given a three-year prison term by a federal court in the nation’s capital for selling state gifts without authorization.

The former cricket star, who started his political party in April 1996, has refuted all allegations of wrongdoing. Later, he petitioned the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to overturn the prison term.

Imran Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, was sentenced to three years in prison on August 30 by the IHC, but his detention at the Attock jail persisted because a special court recently established to hear cases under the Official Secrets Act had ordered jail officials to keep Imran Khan in custody on judicial remand in a case involving a contentious US cipher.

Since he founded the Numl College in Mianwali and the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital, Imran Khan has been actively involved in charitable activities.

Cricket Career

Imran Khan participated in two decades of international cricket in the late twentieth century. He led the Pakistani team that won the 1992 Cricket World Cup.

One of Pakistan’s most accomplished cricketers, Khan retired in 1992. He amassed 3,807 runs and 362 wickets in total during Test matches, making him one of only eight cricketers in the world to complete the “All-rounder’s Triple” in Test matches. Later, in 2010, he was honored with induction into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.

Political life

Imran attempted to win a seat in the National Assembly of Pakistan in the Pakistani general election of 1997 from the NA-53, Mianwali, and NA-94, Lahore constituencies as a candidate of the PTI, but he was unsuccessful and lost both seats to candidates of the PML (N). In 2013, he led his party in opposition in Punjab and Sindh while forming a government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

However, the Imran-led PTI won the most seats in the national and provincial assemblies in 2018, taking 116 of the 270 seats, according to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Marriages

The PTI leader was married twice, but neither union endured. He tied the knot with British national Jemima Goldsmith in 1995, and the two split up in 2004.

Then, in 2015, he wed Reham Khan, but they divorced after only 10 months of marriage.

Bushra Bibi, who is from Pakpattan, and Imran Khan later got married; they are still together today.
