Faisalabad Orders Mandatory CCTV Cameras for All Markets to Curb Child Abuse

Faisalabad police have issued a district-wide directive requiring all shopkeepers, departmental stores, wholesale markets, shopping malls, and other commercial establishments to install CCTV cameras within one month as part of efforts to curb child sexual abuse and improve public safety.

The order was issued by Tanveer Hussain, who warned that failure to comply within the stipulated timeframe could result in strict legal action, including the registration of criminal cases and the sealing of business premises.

According to the official notification, the directive applies to all commercial units operating across Faisalabad district, regardless of size or nature of business.

Police officials said surveillance coverage would help investigators identify suspects, deter criminal activity, and strengthen evidence collection in sensitive cases.

The move follows a sharp increase in reported cases of child sexual abuse in Faisalabad. Official police data show that 330 cases involving minor boys and girls were reported between January 1 and June 30, 2026, raising serious concerns about public safety and child protection.

A breakdown of the figures shows that 25 cases were reported in Lyallpur Town, 80 in Madina Town, 71 in Iqbal Division, 82 in Jaranwala Division, and 72 in Sadar Division during the six-month period.

Police records further indicate that challans in 154 cases have been completed and submitted to courts, while investigations in 118 cases are still ongoing with incomplete challans.

In six cases, reports were submitted under Section 512 of the Criminal Procedure Code due to incomplete investigations. Another 48 cases were later dismissed, according to official documents.

Speaking about the initiative, Tanveer Hussain said the mandatory installation of CCTV cameras is aimed not only at preventing child sexual abuse but also at reducing incidents of theft, robbery, and other street crimes.

He urged the business community to cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies and install surveillance systems without delay, stressing that compliance would help protect vulnerable individuals and improve overall security for customers, employees, and property owners.

Police officials said enforcement teams will begin inspections after the one-month deadline to ensure implementation of the order, signaling a tougher approach toward crime prevention and public accountability in Faisalabad.
