Government College University Lahore has launched its first structured summer internship program, offering more than 100 on-campus opportunities for undergraduate students from across Pakistan.
According to Government College University Lahore, the initiative makes GCU the first public sector university in the country to introduce a large-scale institutional internship framework specifically designed for BS students.
Practical learning at the center of the program
Vice Chancellor Professor Muhammad Omer Chaudhry said the program aims to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world experience. He explained that interns will actively participate in the university’s governance, research activities, and administrative operations.
He added that the internship will also fulfil the mandatory training requirement introduced under the Higher Education Commission Undergraduate Policy 2023, making it both an academic and professional milestone for students.
Duration and work structure
The internship program will run for six to eight weeks during July and August. Selected students will work five days a week at either the GCU Main Campus or the Kala Shah Kaku Campus.
University officials said the structured schedule is designed to give interns consistent exposure to professional environments while maintaining academic discipline.
Wide range of learning areas
Interns will gain hands-on experience in multiple departments and functional areas. These include strategic planning, academic research and innovation, financial management, information technology systems, and quality assurance processes.
The university believes this exposure will help students develop problem-solving skills, teamwork, and a better understanding of institutional operations.
Eligibility and application scope
The program is open to undergraduate students from GCU as well as all HEC-recognised institutions across Pakistan. Applicants must have completed at least the fourth semester of their BS degree and maintain good academic standing.
Students who are awaiting their fourth semester results are also eligible to apply, ensuring wider access to the opportunity.
A step toward stronger graduate readiness
Education experts say the initiative reflects a growing focus on employability and skills development in public sector universities. By offering structured on-campus internships, GCU Lahore aims to better prepare graduates for future careers while setting a model for other institutions to follow.
University officials said further details regarding selection and placement will be shared with applicants in due course.
