Punjab Launches Cyber Patrolling Ahead of Muharram

The Punjab government has launched a special cyber patrolling operation ahead of Muharram-ul-Haram to prevent the spread of hate speech, sectarian material, and provocative online content that could threaten public order.

Officials said dedicated cyber surveillance teams will monitor social media platforms around the clock, identifying and reporting content that targets religious sentiments or promotes unrest during the sensitive period.

According to sources, the operation is being conducted jointly by the Punjab Safe City Authority, Punjab Police, and other law enforcement agencies as part of the province’s comprehensive Muharram security plan.

Authorities disclosed that more than 5,000 social media pages, accounts, and websites involved in spreading objectionable or hate-related content have already been blocked under the ongoing campaign.

Officials warned that individuals found uploading, sharing, or amplifying content that incites sectarian hatred, promotes violence, or hurts religious sentiments will face strict legal action under relevant laws.

The Punjab government has also urged social media users to exercise responsibility, respect religious sensitivities, and ensure that online activity complies with legal and ethical standards.

Officials said the cyber patrolling initiative is a key component of broader efforts to maintain peace, harmony, and law and order across Punjab during Muharram-ul-Haram, alongside physical security measures and intelligence-based monitoring.
