The government has decided to disburse salaries and pensions to public sector employees ahead of Eid-ul-Azha to facilitate financial preparations for the upcoming religious festival.
The Ministry of Finance has issued a formal notification confirming the early release of payments for the month of May. According to the notification, government employees and pensioners will receive their salaries and pensions on May 22.
The decision has been taken to ensure that employees have sufficient time to manage Eid-related expenses, including household purchases and travel arrangements.
Finance Ministry issues official instructions
The Ministry of Finance has directed the Controller General of Accounts to ensure timely processing of payments. Relevant departments have been instructed to complete all financial arrangements in advance so that disbursements are not delayed.
Officials said the move reflects routine administrative practice ahead of major religious festivals, when public spending typically increases across the country.
The notification clearly instructs that all payments must be released before Eid-ul-Azha in line with the government’s facilitation policy.
Relief for employees and pensioners
The early payment decision is expected to benefit millions of government employees and retired pensioners across Pakistan. With Eid-ul-Azha being a major religious occasion, households usually face higher spending on food, travel, and sacrificial arrangements.
In cities such as Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad, financial planning for Eid often begins weeks in advance due to rising prices in local markets. Early salary disbursement is expected to ease pressure on families during this period.
Routine measure ahead of festive season
Government officials described the decision as part of standard measures taken before major holidays. Similar arrangements are typically made during Eid festivals to support liquidity and ensure smooth financial planning for public sector workers.
The Ministry of Finance has emphasized that all departments must comply with the schedule and ensure seamless coordination with the accounts offices.
With this step, the government aims to provide financial convenience to employees and pensioners ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, which is one of the most significant religious events in the country.
