Director Imtiaz Ali’s latest film, “Amar Singh Chamkila,” has sparked controversy following criticism from Amandeep Kaur, the eldest daughter of the slain Punjabi singer, and his widow, Gurmail Kaur.
Family Displeased with Portrayal:
Amandeep Kaur, who was only five years old at the time of her father’s tragic death, voiced her disappointment with the film, stating that despite providing significant information to the director, crucial aspects of her family’s involvement were omitted.
Specifically, she highlighted the portrayal of her mother, Gurmail Kaur, who performed Chamkila’s last rites, as inadequate.
Amandeep also lamented the absence of key family members in the film.
Omissions in Film Credits:
Amandeep revealed that despite their cooperation during the film’s production, Imtiaz Ali neglected to include photographs of Chamkila’s daughters in the closing credits.
“They showed everyone from Amarjot’s family, but no one from our family. My bua, chacha, no one was shown,” shared Amandeep. She then added, “We are upset with him. How could he do this?”
