Peshawar Zalmi stun Qalandars in a tense clash. In a riveting showdown at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium during the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season nine, Peshawar Zalmi secured a hard-fought victory over Lahore Qalandars by a margin of 8 runs.
Despite an outstanding century by Rassie van der Dussen, Lahore Qalandars fell short in their pursuit of victory, marking their fifth consecutive loss of the season.
Van der Dussen’s unbeaten knock of 105 runs off just 52 deliveries was a standout performance, showcasing his batting prowess.
However, it was not enough to overhaul Zalmi’s formidable total of 212 runs. The South African batsman received little support from his teammates, with only minor contributions from the rest of the batting lineup.
Throughout the chase, Van der Dussen displayed remarkable resilience and power-hitting, dispatching the ball to the boundary with seven fours and five sixes at an impressive strike rate of 200.
Despite his valiant effort, the Qalandars’ batting lineup struggled to keep pace with the required run rate, ultimately falling short of the target.
Peshawar Zalmi, on the other hand, delivered a commanding performance with the bat earlier in the match.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Zalmi’s opening pair of Babar Azam and Ayub laid a solid foundation, forging a partnership of 136 runs for the first wicket in just 14.2 overs.
Ayub’s aggressive batting was instrumental in setting the tone for Zalmi’s innings, while Azam provided valuable support with his composed knock of 48 runs off 36 balls.
Despite the loss of wickets in the latter stages, Rovman Powell’s blistering cameo of 46 runs off 20 deliveries propelled Zalmi to a commanding total.
As Peshawar Zalmi stun Qalandars in a tense clash, Shaheen Afridi led the bowling attack for Lahore Qalandars, finishing with figures of 3/33, but his efforts were not enough to prevent Zalmi from posting a challenging target.
